What is a Verb

A verb is a word used to describe an action, situation, or event. The body part of the sentence shows the state of being of action. In this article, I will teach you what is a verb.

For example:

  1. Ram is singing a song. In this sentence “sing” is a verb.
  2. I go to school every day. “Go” is a verb in this sentence.

Verbs Forms

There are 6 forms to use a verb in different types of sentences.

  • Base Form: run, go, read…
  • Infinitive: to run, to go, to read…
  • Present Participle: I run, I go, they read…
  • Past Tense: ran, went, read…
  • Past Participle: run, gone, read…
  • Gerund: running, going, reading…

There are three types of verbs:

  • Action verbs (Go, Sleep, Eat, etc.)
  • Modal verbs (can, could, may, might, etc.)
  • Auxiliary verbs (be, can, do, have, etc.)
